Click to expand.I bought the game cheap earlier in the summer and with the 1.3 beta patch and a RP profile which disables four of my threads the game runs fine. Forced anti-aliasing even works. Sometimes if you drive too fast the scenery doesn't update properly but it is rare. Apart from ugly shadow draw-in and pop up the game looks really good, especially the lead character who is distinctive, well animated and, well, looks great.
There's a bug with the map though at resolutions above 1280x768 where the place markers don't move with the map itself, effectively making it useless but, apart from that, the game runs fine. The game is also surprisingly good with a large overworld and plenty to do although it does get a little repetitive as all sandbox games do eventually. Love the atmospheric touches too like the way everything is black and white (except for the red of the Nazi's flags) until you free the area then it is coloured in. An update to my previous post of 1st October 2010 now I've switched back to NVIDIA. I'm currently playing The Saboteur again after being a little disappointed by the glitchy performance on my former HD 5870 CFX setup which required using RadeonPro to disable cores. Even then the game had a tendency to be slow updating textures when driving too fast.
Anyway, with the GTX 580 and the latest 270.51 betas the game is an absolute joy to play. I'm using the 0x00411245 AA flag and forced 4xMSAA and 2xSSAA and getting 55-60 fps all the time even when driving through Paris in the rain.
No matter how fast I drive the texture streaming works fine (unlike before) and I don't have to disable CPU cores either so it seems that most of the issues came from using AMD graphics cards. I did some digging around and it looks like the game had some serious issues with ATI graphics hardware when it was released to the extent that many people couldn't even run it at all without disabling cores!!! Even with the v1.03 beta patch (a final build was never released due to EA disbanding Pandemic shortly after the game's release) the game was still a little cranky on ATI cards. Seems to work much better on NVIDIA cards from my playing experience. What a great game it is too; I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Shame about the scrolling map bug though. The Saboteur is a bit of flawed gem IMO.
Sure it's still a little buggy e.g. The scrolling map/misplaced icons and the engine sound cutting out at high speed (although to be fair it has never crashed or glitched out on me in the 10 hours I've been playing it on my GTX 580) but it's a lot more enjoyable than most sandbox games I've played. The WWII Parisian setting is surprisingly refreshing and the decision to have areas in black and white prior to them turning to colour when liberated is a very nice touch.
Jul 02, 2012 Icons are displaced at resolution 1920x1080. This feature is not available right now. Please try again later. Mirror's Edge, The Saboteur and Spore Collection now on GOG.. Kinds of broken and unplayable at high resolutions thanks to the map bug. The Saboteur v1.0 All No-CD [Reloaded.
I also love that you can climb buildings and explore Assassin's Creed style; some of the views are spectacular and show off the great draw distance. The Perk system is also a fine addition. Also the story is more interesting than most and I love the main character who is both endearing, funny and well voice-acted. I guess it's true what they say about Irish charm!
Had Pandemic been given the opportunity to finish this game properly then I think it could have been something really special but most people sadly will remember it for its bugs and being their last game.
